My research here is very short but it leads me to the decision to undertake the MA Fine Art. It has become important to me to try to understand more fully why children are dying. In 2007 an article published by Community Care shared how there were seventy enquiries up to that point. This means quite an escalation in the figures as we are well over 1000 no in fact it is more like 1200. My further research which I have begun to make note on will cover the changes in Health and Social Care and I already have some information around fundamental changes in Social Work Training. I shall also explore market forces and how the free market has impacted on care provision. These will be very meaty topics but the latter leads to some serious concerns about whether the threshold for what is considered as serious harm to a child may be more relaxed in how issues are assessed. There may be some reluctance to intervene or take action due to lack of resources.
The other information I include here was about my trip to Birmingham. I visited a workshop ans was able to speak to a Psychiatrist about my project on 9th July. I also visited the MAC where I have sent a proposal. The Midlands Arts Centre is very culturally diverse in the work it shows and includes a range of contemporary art and different art forms. These can be theatre performances, dance, cinema, childrens art and productions. It also hires out gallery space and studios. Its also situated in parklands near the Centre of Birmingham. There was an exhibition on about the Sari. Some were accompanied by a write up about their origins and purpose. There were one or two very sentimental and precious Sari’s that were important family legacies and some that were reminders of some family violence. It was quite a moving exhibition and pioneered by a group of Asian women. It was on two floors. Downstairs explored the cloths used too and there were reams on show. As I went upstairs to another gallery there was several beautiful Saris’s sadly with some description but I hadn’t time to devote due to my appointment. I include a few images. Some were embroidered in fine silk and the stitching was so detailed. I also loved the way the exhibition had been curated and the use of the lights in different colours.

I really love the very suitable wall hanging in the one below so delicately stitched. Some garments were made for the nobility.
